The Mexican reporter who proposed to Tom Brady while wearing a white wedding gown and flowing veil during Super Bowl XLII media day is reportedly on the run from her home country after allegedly embezzling billions of pesos from the Ministry of the Interior.

Inés Gómez Mont, who was turned down by Brady in 2008 and gave birth to triplets four years later, is on the lam with her lawyer husband Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga after the pair allegedly took about $146 million worth of pesos from the Mexican government between in 2016 and ’17, according to Uno TV via People.

Believed to have fled to the United States with their children, Gómez Mont and Álvarez Puga are facing charges of money laundering, operations with resources of illicit origin and embezzlement. If convicted, they could be sentenced to between 20 to 60 years in prison and the Mexican prosecutor’s office has begun the process of requesting Interpol to issue an international red notice for the couple, according to VICE.

The couple married in 2015 around the same time that Gómez Mont’s “fortune began to grow enormously,” a friend told TV Notas. “The truth is that she and her husband are up to their necks in these accusations from 2016,” the unnamed friend said. “This case started years ago, but I don’t know why until now the authorities hadn’t obtained the arrest warrants against them. Sooner or later, it was going to happen.”

In 2008, Brady turned down Gómez Mont’s proposal; he was dating Brazilian model Gisele Bündchen at the time (they were married the following year) and the father of a child born the previous summer to ex-girlfriend and actress Bridget Moynahan. “No, I’m a one-woman man,” Brady said at the time to Gómez Mont. “But you’re beautiful. Anybody who would have the opportunity to marry you would be a lucky man.”

Following Brady’s rejection, Gómez Mont also struck out with a marriage proposal to quarterback Eli Manning when the New York Giants took their turn at the podium in advance of upsetting the 18-0 Patriots. Already set to be married to a man in Mexico at the time, Gómez Mont was asked what she would have done if Brady or Manning had said yes. “I would have told the Mexican guy thanks for everything,” she said.

Given the current situation, it certainly seems like Brady and Manning both dodged a bullet, figuratively. Hopefully, for the sake of their children, Gómez Mont and Álvarez Puga are able to do the same, literally.
