Report: Angels Want to Hook Trout for Rest of His Career With Lifetime Deal

In order to prevent Mike Trout from making a huge splash once he reaches free agency, the Angels are looking to hook the outfielder with a long-term deal.

And by long-term, Los Angeles means life.

Here’s the scoop from Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports: “The Angels are expected to try again to make Mike Trout a lifetime Angel when they discuss a contract this winter, and one rival agent suggested Trout’s agent would be wise to wait until free agents Bryce Harper and Manny Machado are signed to provide the floor.”

As of now, Trout still has two years and $66.5 million remaining on the six-year, $144.5 million extension he signed back in March of 2014.

With an average salary exceeding $33 million, the 27-year-old is already the highest-paid position player in baseball.

If Trout stays in Los Angeles following the 2020 season, expect that to continue.

In his time in the majors, the seven-time All-Star has amassed 234 home runs, 221 doubles, 44 triples, 188 stolen bases, and 637 RBI while batting .307.
