The Rockies are finalizing a massive extension that will keep their star third baseman belting home runs in Colorado through the 2026 MLB season.

According to ESPN, Nolan Arenado and the Rockies are finalizing an eight-year contract extension worth $260 million.

The pending deal, which will set a per-year record for position players, includes a player opt-out after the 2021 season.

Though the deal isn’t worth the $300 million free-agent third baseman Manny Machado received from the San Diego Padres, only Arizona starter Zack Greinke ($34.4 million) will have a higher average salary than Arenado’s $32.5 million.

Arenado hit .297/.374/.561 with 38 home runs and 110 RBIs in 2018. The 27-year-old is a four-time All-Star who has won a Gold Glove in all six of his major league seasons. Overall, Arenado has hit .291/.346/.539 with 186 home runs and 616 RBIs.

With Machado and Arenado agreeing to big contracts in the past week, the focus of the MLB offseason will be where free agent Bryce Harper ends up.

The All-Star outfielder has been meeting with the Los Angeles Dodgers and has also been linked to the Philadelphia Phillies.
