This year’s NFL playoffs will be a whole new ballgame for at least five teams.
That’s the minimum number of teams that will qualify for the postseason this year which did not make the playoff last year.
Joining perennial playoff teams like the Patriots and Saints will be the Bears, Cowboys, Texans, Charger, and Seahawks. The Ravens and Colts could both also still qualify for the postseason, which would bring the number of new teams to seven.
“You either believe in something or you don’t,” said Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. “I think just staying the course and knowing we’re on to something. Believing in the history. We know what we’re capable of doing. We’ve shown it over a lot of years. You’re always adapting, but it’s staying what you’re true to. I think that’s what is happening. We look like a team that we have seen before, and that’s powerful.”
An example of how the NFL values parity, this will be the 29th consecutive season the league has turned over at least 25 percent of the playoff field from one year to the next.
