Usually a vocal participant and source of media interactions at the annual NFL owner meetings, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was noticeably silent at this year’s gathering.

Kraft, of course, is still navigating a legal and moral minefield after being accused of solicitation following multiple visits to a seedy Florida massage parlor.

And, according to one of his fellow owners, Kraft’s presence at this year’s meetings was “awkward.”

Though not discussed publicly by the owners, the Kraft situation was an elephant in the room. One of Kraft’s fellow owners thought the situation would be addressed by Kraft and he found it “strange” it wasn’t. But, all in all, Kraft had the support of his peers even if they felt odd with his presence.

“I’m not going to judge,” one team owner told USA TODAY. “We all make mistakes.”

Were Kraft to simply admit his guilt and accept the light consequences, things would seemingly be better for the 77-year-old.

But, for whatever reason, Kraft is either unable or unwilling to do it.

As such, the ongoing saga will continue to be an offseason story – especially when the owners meet next in May in South Florida.
