Though he’ll no longer be facing him from the opposing sideline, Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh still can’t help himself when it comes to former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer.
While speaking with The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami on a podcast, Harbaugh was asked what his reaction was when Meyer retired.
“Urban Meyer’s had a winning record. A really phenomenal record everywhere he’s been,” Harbaugh said. “But also, controversy follows everywhere he’s been.”
It makes sense Harbaugh might be a little salty toward Meyer as the ex-OSU coach went 4-0 against him.
“All you can be judged on is your record,” Harbaugh continued. “What your record is overall. What your record is within your conference. What your record is with head-to-head matchups. I think you’ll find Ohio State is the only team with a better record, a better conference record than us (since I’ve been there) and has a better head-to-head matchup with us.”
Meyer retired in January after the Buckeyes topped Washington 28-23 in the Rose Bowl. He will be working as a broadcaster for Fox during the upcoming college football season.
A three-time national champion coach with the Buckeyes as well as the Florida Gators, Meyer is not interested in making the jump to the NFL.
“I could never work at a place … I see some of these guys’ records because the NFL is so even,” Meyer previously said. “Some of these guys, their record is 74-58. I could never do that.”
