Meet Chris Plys, the Guy Who’s Trying to Make Curling Cool

This tattooed Minnesotan and former Olympian wants to give sport a new, hipper spin.

Few people would call curling—the winter sport played on ice with rocks and sweepers—a cool sport. But Chris Plys wants to change that.

From Duluth, Minnesota, Plys is a professional curler, who began competing in the sport at age 10, per Red Bull. Now, he’s gearing up to represent the U.S. team again, in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Plys tells Red Bull that curling is similar to chess: “one mental mistake, and the game is over.” Unlike the majority of curlers, Plys is also a big fan of ink—as in tattoos.
