Eli Manning should make the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
However, that doesn’t mean he should start any more football games for the New York Giants.
Following yesterday’s 20-13 defeat to the Washington Redskins, the Giants are 1-7 and have almost no shot at making the playoffs.
Despite drafting rookie running back Saquon Barkley and signing star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to a long-term contract, the Giant’s offense has struggled to score points, largely because they have not been able to protect Manning in the pocket.
Sacked 31 times in 2017, Manning has already been sacked that many times through this season’s first eight games and the team is on pace to surrender 62 sacks this season.
Manning did his best to put a good face on what’s happening in New York, but clearly something has to give.

Unfortunately for Manning, what that something should be is him, according to Forbes.
It’s in the best interests of the team, and himself, if the Giants come back from their bye week with backup quarterback Kyle Lauletta under center.
As troubling as it will be to end Manning’s 14-year career as the face of the franchise, the Giants can’t allow him to continue to get pounded by an offensive line with more holes than a block of Swiss cheese.
They also need to see if Lauletta can play and, if he can’t, plan accordingly.
No matter what, continuing to trot Manning out to get pounded every week for basically no reason is a giant disservice to him, his legacy – and the team.
