Steph Curry couldn’t miss during a third-quarter spurt that saw him cap 5-5 shots from three-point land and score 17 points in all to stake Golden State to a 10-point lead entering the fourth quarter.
With Houston playing on the road, it would have been the perfect opportunity for the Rockets to fold and allow themselves to get down three games to one in the Western Conference finals.
Instead, Houston star Chris Paul stepped up in the fourth with a number of key shots en route to scoring 27 points overall (along with four assists and five three-pointers) in a 95-92 win.
Paul’s teammate James Harden went for 30 points, four assists, four rebounds and three steals and Eric Gordon had 14 points including a clutch three-pointer with a little more than two minutes left that helped Houston hold off the Warriors.
After the dust settled in the fourth, the Warriors had only scored 12 points in the quarter.
“I thought this is the highest level we’ve ever played defensively, without a doubt,” said Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni, “because we’re talking about the best offensive team ever.”
Now tied up at 2-2, the series will shift back to Houston for Game 5 on Thursday night.
