Fired by the Worldwide Leader weeks ago following accusations he leaked confidential information, former ESPN baseball broadcaster Adnan Virk is speaking out about the circumstances surrounding his termination.
It is believed it’s believed ESPN fired Virk, who called ballgames, hosted Baseball Tonight, and appeared on ESPN radio, because he revealed confidential details about future programming on Sunday Night Baseball to sports media website Awful Announcing.
In a statement to The New York Post, Virk denied doing anything that should have gotten him fired.
“Suffice it to say, that I believe that I did nothing wrong that would justify my termination, and I categorically deny that I leaked any confidential or proprietary information,” he said. “There is considerably more that I would like to say regarding my tenure with ESPN and the circumstances surrounding my termination. However, I believe that, for now, it is in my and the Company’s best interest to concentrate on attempting to resolve our differences, rather than engaging in a very public war of words.”
When he was approached about the alleged leak, Virk, 40, refused to cooperate with the network’s investigation into the matter, which also contributed to his termination.
If, in fact, that is true.
“Much of what has been reported about my termination from ESPN is false and, I think, defamatory,” Virk said. “I think that, while we are attempting to settle our differences, it is not productive for me to advocate my positions or to assert any affirmative claims in the press.”
Virk, who recently signed a two-year extension, is attempting to reach a settlement with ESPN.
