If it can’t get its lingering ratings problems corrected by the start of football season, big changes could be going down on the set of ESPN’s Get Up morning show.
The show, which is paying out nearly $15 million in combined salary to hosts Mike Greenberg, Michelle Beadle and Jalen Rose and spent around that much on a posh studio in DUMBO in Brooklyn, has reportedly only hit 300,000 viewers 10 out of the 42 times it has been on the air.
Those are unacceptable numbers for a show with the kind of expenditures Get Up has already racked up so ESPN has decided the program has until September 6 to right the ratings boat.
If that doesn’t happen, big changes, including to the show’s on-air cast, could be on the way.
Those changes could mean the possible departure of Greenberg, Beadle or Rose, but could also mean the addition of Ryan Clark, Booger McFarland or Damien Woody for the NFL season.
No matter what happens, ESPN should stick with the show through football season at the least
“You don’t change the team. You change the players and coaches. That’s what would happen with Get Up,” a source told The Sporting News.
