After wrapping up his 15th season playing for New York, Eli Manning is facing a giant decision.
Coming off a down year, the 38-year-old quarterback has to decide if he wants to come back to the team (if they’ll have him, that is).
At this point, it sounds like Manning is still on the fence about his NFL return.
In an interview with WFAN’s Mike Francesa on Wednesday, Manning – who had an in-depth talk with general manager Dave Gettleman earlier this week – said even he isn’t sure if he has played in his last NFL game.
“We will see,” Manning said. “I don’t know if it’s leaning one way or the other right now. I think it’s kind of that time to just reflect and figure out what’s the best thing going forward.”
Though Manning is due to make $23.2 million this season (the Giants could save $17 million by cutting him), the team’s 8-23 record over the last two seasons could be taking its toll on him.
“It’s tough losing football games,” Manning said. “And you kind of search and try to figure out what you can do different or what you can do better. Each game, each season is different. That definitely takes a toll when you’re not winning game. It’s tough on your person, it’s tough on your family, it’s tough on teams.”
