At 3-4 entering last week, the Philadelphia Eagles’ chances of returning to the Super Bowl were flying too close to the ground.
However, after winning in London against the Jaguars on Sunday and then making a deal for wide receiver Golden Tate on Tuesday, the Eagles gave themselves a shot a playing football in February in Atlanta.
By giving up a third-round pick to the Lions for the 30-year-old receiver, the Eagles addressed a position of need as they have struggled to get consistent production out of the slot this season.
In acquiring Tate, the Eagles now have a clear upgrade over Nelson Agholor and Jordan Matthews on the interior and also have a player they can line up on the outside alongside Alshon Jeffery.
If the Eagles do keep Tate on the interior, they will be very difficult to cover across the middle of the field as tight end Zach Ertz is already a huge threat in that area.
With the move, Philadelphia believes they are back in the championship conversation.
“We have a lot confidence in our players and our coaching staff. Has everything gone exactly how we thought this year?” said Philly’s executive vice president Howie Roseman. “No. I don’t think any season does. But we think we have a really good football team and we’re adding a really good player and we’re going to keep our foot on the gas. We’re always going to try to win. We’re always going to try to put our best foot forward and what we can do now is do it for this season and this moment.”
