After 19 years with the Patriots, Tom Brady plans to come back for number 20 – at least.
The New England quarterback reiterated his desire to return to the Pats in 2019 and “keep playing at a championship level” during an interview with Jim Gray of Westwood One.
“I have goals to not only play next year, but beyond that,” Brady said. “I’m going to try to do it as best I possibly can. I’m going to give it everything I have, like I always have It will certainly be a challenge. I don’t take any of these things for granted, but I hope I can keep playing.”
Despite struggling on the field this season, the 41-year-old said he still wakes up every day feeling “fulfilled” with what he’s doing.
“In my heart and soul, I love playing the sport of football and it’s brought me so much joy in my life,” Brady said. “It tests you in so many ways. I’ve been dealing with it for a long time. There’s anxiousness and nerves, and joy and happiness. There’s disappointment and frustration. The emotions run the gamut. But if you can stay and build your mental toughness, it’s just been incredibly rewarding. I’m a very, very lucky man.”
Brady’s contract with the Patriots expires after the 2019 season. He earned his NFL-record-tying 14th Pro Bowl berth this season.
The Patriots, 10-5, have already qualified for the playoffs and will finish the regular season on Sunday against the New York Jets.
