While scoring his 44 points against the Celtics on Monday night in Cleveland, LeBron James passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (2,356) for the most field goals in NBA playoff history.
More importantly, the performance by King James helped lead the Cavaliers to a 111-102 victory and a 2-2 tie in their Eastern Conference finals series against Boston.
James had help in the effort with Kyle Korver getting loose for 14 points, George Hill putting in 13 and Tristan Thompson chipping in with 13 of his own along with 12 rebounds.
For the Celtics, Terry Rozier had 16 points and 11 assists and Jaylen Brown had 25, but Boston was never able to bring it closer than a seven-point deficit after falling behind by double figures relatively early in the first quarter.
With the loss, Boston fell to 1-6 on the road in the playoffs. Game 5 is Wednesday in Boston.
“It’s the best two out of three to go to the NBA Finals. Doesn’t get better than that,” said Celtics coach Brad Stevens following the loss. “Ultimately, anybody that didn’t think this was going to be tough, I mean, everything is tough. In this deal, it’s a blast to have to grit your teeth, get up off the mat and go after it again.”
Should they lose, it would be the first time in history the Celtics have blown a 2-0 series lead.
