In the remote woods of Hyltebruk, Sweden, food stylist Mette Helbæk and her husband chef Flemming Hansen found the perfect untouched acres for their destination wilderness hotel. The pair opened Stedsans in the Woods in 2016 and have now worked with a Danish architect Asger Risborg Jakobsen to add 15 fir-tree cabins to the property.
Summer cottages are a tradition in the area, and although they can skew much more rustic than these luxe numbers, local lean-tos were an inspiration for the triangular design of the new cabins, which join a host of Bedouin tents among the hotel’s sleeping accomodations.
One thing that’s true to local tradition, though? Most of the resort is entirely off-grid.
Being a food-centric retreat, guests enjoy shared meals in the greenhouse restaurant using ultra-local ingredients gathered from the property. Elsewhere on site: detox in the floating sauna, take a cooking class, kayak on the lake, go on a foraging hike or stargaze for days. Er, nights.
