An American icon gets the revival treatment

When the actual “Eleanor” Mustang from Gone in 60 Seconds went under the hammer on a day late in the spring of 2013, it sold for a cool $1 million.

However, it was not the most expensive ‘Stang that was sold by Mecum’s Auctions on that day.

That honor belonged to the one-of-one 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake that crossed the block for $1.3 million, the same model that inspired a new line of 50th-anniversary versions that Shelby just unveiled in Las Vegas. Priced around $70,000 (base Ford Mustang GT included), the 50th-anniversary model Super Snakes pack 670-HP V8s that can blast the cars from 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. (And you can crank that up to more than 750 ponies with optional superchargers, if you so desire.)

Equipped with freshly designed hoods, spoilers, splitters, fog lights and special anniversary paint jobs, the 500 new Super Snakes Shelby will produce are sure to go fast, fittingly enough. “The 2017 Super Snake represents American muscle in the truest sense,” said Shelby VP Vince LaViolette. “We designed every aspect of the car to be leaner and more functional than previous models. No other car offers so much performance and styling for the price.”

To ride in the new Super Snake, find a Shelby dealer near you.

And if for some reason you’re more into Eleanors than Super Snakes, here’s where to get one.
