You don’t need any other reason than this: Norwegian Air will begin offering one-way transatlantic service to Edinburgh, Scotland and Bergen, Norway as early as 2017, according to a statement made by their CEO on Tuesday.
Iceland’s Wow Air and Eurowings — a Lufthansa subsidiary — both began offering one-way U.S. departures for under $100 earlier this year, and now Scandinavia’s favorite low-budget airline is getting in on the action.
How they’re doing it: in addition to a Spirit-style a la carte pricing system (so yes, you might have to pay for your carry-on), Norwegian Air just ordered 100 Boeing 737 MAX jets — smaller planes that will likely depart from regional airports, thus avoiding the exorbitant fees that larger hubs levy on their clients.
The rub: round-trip budget service is further down the pipeline, with return flights likely to still run consumers in the $200+ range.
