A note on menswear, by way of Phil Hartman.
"When life gives you lemons,” the late comic actor once opined, “make lemonade. And then toss it in the face of the person who gave you the lemons until they give you the oranges you asked for in the first place.”
Just so happens that Gentry — that impeccably tasteful men’s retailer — did just that.
After a change in ownership and some legal quibbles, they’ve just relaunched with boutique menswear brands (Engineered Garments, Our Legacy, etc.) that fill the space between heritage and Brooklyn cool — but not overly hipster cool.
Some new favorites:
- A heavy Shetland wool short fishtail parka, with Lycra interior and adjustable hood (and face mask).
- A ribbed jersey cardigan from Stone Island.
- A navy peacoat from The Real McCoy’s, a Japanese brand inspired by '40s and '50s Americana.
Oranges. Lots of oranges here.
