How to Get 50-Year-Old The Glenlivet Scotch

In most cases, the only thing a decent bottle of Scotch comes with is a high-class hangover.

Given the nature of the bottle Christie’s is auctioning off on October 21st, a 50-year-old The Glenlivet that’s been in a sherry cask since 1966, it comes with something else — a trip to Scotland.

In addition to including a leather-bound copy of The Glenlivet book and a bespoke gold stopper made by silversmith Richard Fox, the new owner of the vintage bottle will have the opportunity to go to the The Glenlivet distillery and look at the selection of casks that were put down in 2016. Here’s the fun part: he or she will also receive a certificate of ownership for another bottle of 50-year-old Scotch from one of those casks, redeemable half a century hence.

The unnumbered bottle — which is being auctioned to benefit the UK Crafts Council — comess from the personal collection of master distiller Alan Winchester and it includes his signature.

Christie’s expects to get anywhere from $26,000 to $40,000 for the bottles. Airfare and walking-around money to spend on haggis, deep-fried Mars bars or Im Bru soda is on you.
