To quote, well, us a month ago… “If you want to feel like the King in the North, just go get yourself an actual castle in the north.”
On that occasion, we were referencing a for-sale Scottish castle that prompted dreams of dragons and battles and impeccably timed quips. This time around, we’ve got a Northern Ireland castle that actually was featured in the show. And at a minimum offer price of 500K pounds, equivalent to a shade under $660K, the former fortress could be a relative bargain.
For Thrones fans: Remember Riverrun? This stronghold (the exterior, at least) is where Robb Stark executes Rickard Karstark, leading to the Karstarks abandoning the OG King in the North’s side … and sealing all that Red Wedding chaos. For everyone else coughing “Nerd!” under their breath: Gosford Castle is steeped in Northern Irish history. It was built in the mid-19th century, saw military use in both WWII and The Troubles and sits on the nation’s first conservation forest.
An interested buyer shouldn’t expect to own the entire castle, as renovations in the early 2010s partitioned the property off into 23 separate luxury residences. But the package still includes 15 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms across six “apartments” … not to mention rooftop gardens for overlooking your new kingdom.
