Sure, you could own your own private island in Connecticut for about $11 million. But then there’s Great Island, located in Darien, Connecticut, that makes it look like a speck on the map.
Listed for $175 million, the property is basically it’s own private city, as it’s bordered by 14 acres of conservation land and surrounded almost entirely by verdant beauty. A half-mile driveway leads one past its polo grounds and workout track, as well as the property’s hidden cove for mooring your collection of superyachts or submersibles.
Acquired in 1902, the main house, known as Villa Juliette, was fashioned completely out of stone, with a tile roof, and every room in it features vistas of Long Island Sound. Besides the main house, the property also includes a horse stable, several beach cottages, a private beach, caretaker’s house with a greenhouse, and even a cow barn. Yet another house, built in the 1860s, sits near the stables and offers three apartments.
