If You Love Hot Dogs and Kitsch, the Wienermobile Wedding Is for You

It's in Vegas and it's free. What could be better?

Getting married in Las Vegas is already a gauche move, obviously in the best of ways. But if you were planning desert nuptials in the city of sin (or maybe your family is driving you crazy enough that now you want to elope), you could tie the knot this weekend, for free, compliments of the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. Yes, the Wienermobile Wedding is a thing.

The 27-foot-long motorized hot dog will be parked in front of the Little White Wedding Chapel — where couples like Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, and Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner were married by Elvis impersonators — on April 15 and 16. Oscar Meyer is covering all the costs of the ceremony at the “Wienermobile of Love,” but you’ll have to front your flight and hotel accommodations if you plan to stay overnight. The 30-minute ceremony will be officiated by an Oscar Mayer Hotdogger (that is, a Wienermobile spokesperson), and the happy couple will walk down the aisle to a Wiener Whistle Quartet. A wiener-shaped cake and commemorative photos are also included.

So why exactly is Oscar Mayer doing this? According to the company, it’s a very in-demand service.  “From proposals and surprise meat-ups down the aisle to playing matchmaker to some of our own Hotdoggers, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile has held a special place in fans’ hearts — so much so, we receive thousands of requests each and every year to be part of couples’ big days,” Ed Roland, senior manager of brand communications for Oscar Mayer at the Kraft Heinz Company, said in a statement.

Here’s the bad news: All of the time slots for this weekend are already filled, but that doesn’t mean that one or a few of the couples won’t change their minds. So you can sign up for the waiting list, and Oscar Mayer will let you know if there are any cancellations. You will need a Nevada marriage license, which costs $102, but there’s no wait for one in Las Vegas, so you could go the day before (or of) if you get a callback for a Wienermobile Wedding at the last minute.

So go ahead, live out your tube-meat fantasies with your beloved, especially if planning a wedding sounds like your worst nightmare.
