In a new interview with Access Online, Terry Crews revealed that Brooklyn Nine-Nine has ditched all of its completed scripts for season eight in the wake of nationwide Black Lives Matter protests against police brutality.

The plan is for showrunner Dan Goor and the writers to reengineer the planned season for the cop comedy in light of the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks and others who were killed by police.

“They had four episodes all ready to go and they just threw them in the trash,” Crews said. “We have to start over. Right now we don’t know which direction it’s going to go in.”

“We’ve had a lot of somber talks about it and deep conversations and we hope through this we’re going to make something that will be truly groundbreaking this year,” the actor, who plays Lieutenant Terry Jeffords on the sitcom, added. “We have an opportunity and we plan to use it in the best way possible.”

The cast and crew of the show also donated $100,000 to the National Bail Fund Network to express their solidarity with those who are protesting police brutality.
