A game between the Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night at Wrigley Field was delayed after a small drone flew into the ballpark and landed on the grass in deep left-center field, according to The Associated Press.
After the drone appeared from over the bleachers with two outs in the bottom of the fifth and the game tied at 2, umpires rushed players into the dugouts before the tiny aircraft touched down in the outfield.
While the teams were still in their dugouts and the umpires were conferring with the grounds crew, the drone took off, hovered at about 100 feet, then flew away into the night.
Following a seven-minute delay, Willson Contreras resumed his at-bat and grounded out to Indians pitcher Aaron Civale to end the inning.
“Just another thing thrown at you,” Civale said. “But it happened. You’ve just got to push through those things.”
The Cubs went on to win the game, 3-2, in 10 innings. It was the fourth consecutive win for Chicago and the eighth loss in a row for Cleveland.
In August a Pittsburgh Pirates-Minnesota Twins game was delayed when a random drone was spotted flying overhead at Target Field.
