He wasn’t penalized for it, but Drew Brees had an excessive celebration on the field last night.
Trailing Peyton Manning by 35 yards to break the all-time passing record in the second quarter of last night’s game against the Washington Redskins, Drew Brees hit rookie Tre’Quan Smith down the right sideline for a 62-yard touchdown.
After the record was snapped, the party was on in New Orleans: The game was stopped as Saints players celebrated with Brees at midfield and his family came on the field.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame took the football, which will go to Canton.
Once everything was said and done, the Saints went for the two-point conversion and New Orleans went on to roll to a 43-19 victory over the Redskins on Monday night.
“Just so grateful for the opportunity to play this game and to have played it so long and to have the teammates that I have, and the New Orleans Saints organization, and this great city and this great fan base. It’s just truly been a dream come true,” Brees said afterward. “I’ll be able to reflect on it maybe a little bit more when my career is done. I still feel like there’s work to be done.”
After the record was broken, the tributes poured in off the field as well on social media, including one from the man Brees replaced at the top of the list.

The record probably won’t last for long given the state of the NFL’s passing rules, but congrats — for now —Drew.
