Trevor Lawrence is College Football’s Next Big Thing

Lawrence is the most coveted high school quarterback in a decade.

The most coveted high school quarterback in a decade looks every bit the player he is billed to be. Trevor Lawrence is tall, (6’6″) but not lanky, weighing in at 210 pounds. He broke Deshaun Watson’s high school records in passing yards (13,902) and touchdowns (161) while starring at Cartersville High School in Georgia. An agent who watched Lawrence throw last year said that the teenager’s arm is NFL-ready and that its “the best high school arm I’ve seen in a long time.” Lawrence’s high school team won 41 consecutive games and back-to-back state championships. The senior committed to Clemson early on, and he is the No. 1 player in the country, according to 247Sports composite ranking. He is the first quarterback to be ranked as the nation’s top player since USC commit Matt Barkley held the top spot in 2009. In December 2016, Lawrence verbally committed to Clemson and shared the news in a tweet.

This past December, he made the commitment official by signing during the first-ever early signing period. Only the local paper was allowed to attend. Lawrence has said he’s “not really into all the media stuff.” He is already on campus and will quickly be thrown into the mix and given his chance to shine.

“His goal is to be the best that has ever done it,” Cartersville head coach Joey King said. “When you hear that, you kind of step back and think, He really could do that.”
