A bid from power couple Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez to buy the New York Mets has gotten an unexpected boost from an unexpected source: Vitamin Water co-founder Mike Repole.

According to multiple reports, Repole, a Queens native and lifelong Mets fan who is worth more than a billion dollars and also owns horses, is stepping up to the plate and has joined the investment group A-Rod and J.Lo have set up to try to buy the team. With a combined net worth of $700 million, J-Rod would need some help to purchase the 80 percent stake the owners of the Mets, the Wilpon family, are trying to sell.

Even if the deal does go down with the help of Repole, Rodriguez and Lopez, who have been working with JPMorgan to iron out the details of the potential sale, would still be the control owners of the team, sources told The New York Post.

Last month, it was reported that Rodriguez and Lopez — who should both theoretically be Yankees fans — were interested in involving Robert Kraft and his family, who own the New England Patriots, in the deal.

It’s unclear if Repole would be a replacement for the Krafts, but that would certainly make some sense from a rooting perspective as the New York Jets, who are the team of choice for most Mets fans, have had their struggles with the Kraft-led Patriots for the better part of two decades.

Dave Portnoy, a massive Boston sports fan who is also the majority owner of Barstool Sports, has also been mentioned as a potential member of J-Rod’s ownership group, at least according to him.
