Tom Hanks is coming back to a big screen near you, this time as Elvis Presley’s iconic manager. According to Variety, Hanks is in negotiations to play Colonel Tom Barker in Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Warner Bros. biopic about the famous musician.

Parker found Presley when he was still just an unknown singer, and was responsible for various milestones in Presley’s life, including his record deal with RCA and his successful acting career. Insiders say that the details are still being worked out, but Hanks’ commitment will help the studio agree to move forward with the project. Luhrmann hopes to get the film into production sometime this year, Variety reports.

Don’t expect to see another star for Elivs’s role, however. Variety writes that Luhrmann always wanted the actor for Parker to be known, but wants someone new to the scene to play the legendary musician.
