During a conversation with James B. Stewart of The New York Times in August of last year, Jeffrey Epstein reportedly claimed he knew intimate details about rich, famous and powerful people.

According to Epstein — a registered sex offender who had already pleaded guilty to state charges of soliciting prostitution from underage girls — people felt comfortable discussing their secrets with him because his own misdeeds were so much worse than theirs.

As a result, Epstein told Stewart, he now knew details about certain people’s sexual proclivities and recreational drug use which could be potentially damaging or embarrassing.

“So one of my first thoughts on hearing of Mr. Epstein’s suicide was that many prominent men and at least a few women must be breathing sighs of relief that whatever Mr. Epstein knew, he has taken it with him,” Stewart writes in The Times.

At the time of their conversation, Stewart was meeting with Epstein after hearing rumors that the disgraced financier was advising Tesla executive Elon Musk (which Tesla and Musk deny was the case).

The meeting took place at Epstein’s home in New York and he made sure Stewart saw photos of Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman, former President Bill Clinton and director Woody Allen during the visit.

Following the conversation, Epstein reached out to Stewart multiple times, asking him to dinner and even to work with him as the late 66-year-old’s biographer.

“Already leery of any further ties to him, I was relieved I could say that I was already busy with another book,” Epstein writes. “That was the last I heard from him. After his arrest and suicide, I’m left to wonder: What might he have told me?”
