When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they were parting ways with the royal family last month, the announcement sparked widespread speculation regarding how the former royal couple would maintain their lifestyles in the face of their newfound “financial independence.”

According to Page Six, Goldman Sachs may be involved. The outlet reported Monday that Harry is rumored to be “in talks” with the banking giant, perhaps laying the groundwork for what could become a “billion-dollar empire.”

Communication between Prince Harry and Goldman Sachs reportedly dates back to at least November, suggesting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had begun planning their financial future months before announcing their break with the royal family in January.

However, as UK outlet The Mirror noted, the conversations could be about a potential speaking engagement for Harry at Goldman’s “Talks at GS” series. As the series’ next high-profile speaker, Harry would be joining the ranks of stars like Gwyneth Paltrow and business leaders including Dropbox co-founder and CEO Drew Houston.

Regardless of the nature of these rumored “talks,” royal insiders are reportedly worried the Sussexes’ association with big corporations will sully the royal brand, The Mirror reported.

Either way, Harry and Meghan’s new lives of financial independence are looking pretty lucrative. “They’re going to earn fortunes, whether through speeches or ambassador work,” PR guru Mark Borkowski told the UK paper. “These are £1billion handshakes.”
