After he was caught masturbating during a Zoom call at work last month, The New Yorker suspended writer Jeffrey Toobin and launched an investigation into his behavior, and it appears they didn’t like what they found: Toobin announced on Twitter on Wednesday that he has been fired by the publication.

“I was fired today by @NewYorker after 27 years as a Staff Writer,” he tweeted. “I will always love the magazine, will miss my colleagues, and will look forward to reading their work.”

“I am writing to share with you that our investigation regarding Jeffrey Toobin is complete, and as a result, he is no longer affiliated with our company,” reads a memo obtained by The Daily Beast and sent from Stan Duncan, Condé Nast’s chief people officer, to New Yorker staffers. “I want to assure everyone that we take workplace matters seriously. We are committed to fostering an environment where everyone feels respected and upholds our standards of conduct.”

Toobin claimed back in October that he was unaware his camera was on when he began masturbating in front of colleagues during the digital election prep meeting. He also was placed on leave at CNN, where he’s an on-air contributor, at the time of the incident. There’s no word yet on whether he will be fired from CNN as well.
