Trump Favorite Candace Owens Used to Run Liberal-Leaning Website
Right-wing rising star as CEO of a site that mocked Trump as recently as late 2016.
A new Buzzfeed News article traces Candace Owens’ evolution from CEO of a liberal-leaning website to right-wing rising star. Owens has recently gained fame as a pro-Trump online personality and as an employee of Turning Point USA, but as recently as late 2016 she was running the now-defunct Degree180. On Owens’ Degree180, columnists regularly blasted then-nominee Donald Trump, who as president has praised Owens on Twitter. One story the site ran was posed as an investigation into his penis size. Owens did not write many political columns for the site, though in 2015 she did go attack the GOP, celebrating the fact that the “Republican Tea Party… will eventually die off (peacefully in their sleep, we hope),” according to Buzzfeed News. Degree180 halted publication in December 2016, right after Trump’s election.
