Dolly Parton is known for many things in addition to her legendary country music career, like being the only tolerable celebrity, funding the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, and, of course, the iconic, seemingly gravity-defying figure she owes to her famously massive breasts. The star has never been shy about her most famous assets, at times even crediting them for her success. “My breasts have served me well. I don’t know if I’m supporting them or they’re supporting me,” she’s famously said. “They’re part of the persona. It always takes a bit of pressure off me.”

When you have breasts as famous as Parton’s, of course, they’re bound to generate some rumors. From claims her chest is actually covered in tattoos to repeated tabloid gossip claiming Parton’s enhancements are the source of pronounced physical distress, the mythology surrounding Dolly Parton’s boobs could fill an entire book (or at least an entire MEL magazine article).

While the star generally seems content to let us talk amongst ourselves, she will occasionally deign to confirm or deny a particular breast-related rumor when called upon. During a recent Today Show appearance, Parton cleared up some long-standing misinformation about her ample bosom, clarifying that her breasts, contrary to popular belief, are not actually insured.

“It’s not true about that,” the star told hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager after the topic came up during a conversation about Heidi Klum’s famously insured legs. “Years ago, was it Betty Grable, or one of the great famous stars that was famous also for her legs? And at that time, I said, ‘Well maybe I should get my boobs insured since I’m famous for them.’ It was just a joke. I didn’t do that.” After all, Parton added, “You can get new boobs but you can’t get new legs!”

While that may be true, there is some benefit in insuring your cosmetically enhanced assets as a star. As former Playboy model and reality star Holly Madison, who has insured her breasts, told People back in 2011, “If anything happened to my boobs, I’d be out for a few months and I’d probably be out a million dollars. I thought I’d cover my assets.”

Regardless, Parton seems content to let her trusty sidekicks fend for themselves. After all, in her own words, they’ve always served her well.
