Machine Gun Kelly Explains Why He Wears Megan Fox’s Blood Around His Neck
"Some people give a handkerchief to their partner. She gave me her DNA."
You may recall that Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox — one of Hollywood’s most publicly affectionate couples at the moment, though they’ve recently received some notable competition from friends/doppelgängers Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian — made headlines back in February for a predictably over-the-top exchange of Valentine’s Day tributes on Instagram, in which MGK claimed to wear Fox’s blood in a necklace. A series of snaps the rapper posted in honor of the holiday included a photo of an orb-like pendant featuring a red-orange splotch, which was presumably Fox’s blood. MGK simply captioned the post, “I wear your blood around my neck,” offering no other explanation for the dark gesture, because what more is there to say, really? I think he made himself pretty clear.
Ellen DeGeneres, however, seemed to think the world was in need of an explanation for Machine Guy Kelly’s gory jewelry preferences, which is why we’re currently revisiting this extremely minor piece of celebrity news three months after the fact. Asked about the cryptic Valentine’s Day post during a recent appearance on DeGeneres’s soon-to-end talk show, Machine Gun Kelly finally explained how and why, exactly, he came to wear his beloved’s blood around his neck — and no, apparently it wasn’t just an homage to Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton, who famously wore necklaces containing each other’s blood during their brief pre-Brangelina marriage in the early aughts.
According to Machine Gun Kelly, Fox gave him the necklace when she was leaving to shoot a film abroad early in the couple’s relationship. The rapper explained that he was “freaking out” over the prospect of Fox’s departure, especially because he somehow didn’t have a passport and would be unable to visit her. “I was kinda freaking out like, ‘You’re gonna leave and I can’t even come see you,’” he told Degeneres. In order to help ease her boyfriend’s separation anxiety, Fox apparently decided to gift him a small piece of her that he could always have with him. “I mean, some people give a handkerchief to their partner,” said Kelly, who is apparently living in a 19th-century romance novel. “She gave me her DNA.”
After giving the world that much-needed explanation, MGK went on to thank none other than Bernie Sanders for the success of his relationship with Fox, because apparently the senator and former presidential candidate is involved in this as well. According to MGK, Sanders was instrumental in helping the rapper finally get a passport — which, again, kind of seems like something a presumably world-touring musician would already have, but okay.
“You know who helped me get a passport? Bernie Sanders,” the rapper explained. “I haven’t even talked to him since this happened. Thank you to the Bernie Sanders team for that. I made it to Bulgaria and the relationship’s going strong, so thank you so much.”
Anyway, congrats to Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox on being in love, and thanks to Bernie Sanders for making this great love story possible. Maybe MGK should gift Bernie a blood necklace as a token of his gratitude.
