He's done similar work in Los Angeles

Jeff Klein, founder of JK Hotel Group, is best known for his work in Los Angeles, which includes the Sunset Towers as well as a private club, the San Vicente Bungalows. But the latest destination Klein has in mind for a members-only club can be found on a different coast. According to a report by Shawn McCreesh at Intelligencer, Klein has big plans for the Jane Hotel — plans which he’s dubbed “SVB NYC.” Which, you’ll have to admit, is pretty catchy.

This won’t be the first time Klein’s worked on a project in New York City. Among other things, he and Graydon Carter were partners in Monkey Bar until 2020. The Jane Hotel project, however, seems like an especially high-profile one — and one which Klein himself seems to view as a challenge akin to his work on the Sunset Tower, according to comments he made to Intelligencer.

Klein plans to have Rose Uniacke design the revamped space’s interiors, and plans to invite 300 members to the club to begin with. (San Vincente Bungalows members will also be able to attend when they’re in New York.) He also said that qualifications for membership would relate to how interesting a given person is, as opposed to their net worth.

“There are so many billionaires that we have rejected in West Hollywood, because, why are you interesting? Because you’re rich? That doesn’t make you interesting,” he told Intelligencer.

The article details Klein’s presentation of his plans for the Jane to the local community board, some of whom seemed skeptical. Will his plans to create a counterpart to Soho House succeed? Klein’s track record is encouraging.
