As 76-year-old Bernie Sanders positions himself toward a second run for president, Elizabeth Warren again looms largest over his designs. Four years ago, when Sanders was thinking about making a 2016 bid, he watched as enthusiasm for Warren grew across the country.
But Warren wasn’t interested and never opened the door, allowing her ally to seize the moment and inspire a movement. But according to The Atlantic, Sanders has recently acknowledged to confidantes that the biggest threat to his pursuit of the 2020 nomination would be the 69-year-old former Harvard Law professor.
New for @theatlantic:
*Bernie eyes Warren as biggest 2020 threat
*Advisers strongly doubt they both run & expect they will sit down after midterms.
*Bernie’s team urging early entry in ’19
*Warren allies say she doesn’t have his “racial blind spots” https://t.co/Je4eTTEagE pic.twitter.com/aPGjHkCdiu

Sanders and Warren are natural allies on a host of liberal causes, but each side believes that when it comes to the next presidential contest, the Democratic primary is only big enough for one of them. So how will they decide which one goes? The resolution of this issue will be one of the most crucial factors in the fast-approaching battle on the left to topple President Trump.
