Lifelong New Yorker Donald Trump is now an official resident of Florida. The president filed to change his primary residence from Manhattan to Palm Beach, Florida in September, the New York Times reported.

Both Trump and his wife, Melania, filed a “declaration of domicile” naming the Mar-a-Lago Club, Trump’s Palm Beach resort, as their permanent residence. Trump confirmed the news on Twitter Thursday night, writing “my family and I will be making Palm Beach, Florida, our Permanent Residence.”

The president went on to suggest that the official move may have been inspired in part by his unpopularity in his city of birth.

“I cherish New York, and the people of New York,” he wrote. “But unfortunately, despite the fact that I pay millions of dollars in city, state and local taxes each year, I have been treated very badly by the political leaders of both the city and state. Few have been treated worse.” Trump added that the decision, while difficult, would “be best for all concerned.”

If the president was hoping to win sympathy from the detractors he alluded to in the tweet, his efforts were largely unsuccessful.

“Good riddance,” tweeted Andrew Cuomo. “He’s all yours, Florida.”

According to the Times, Trump may have made the decision in part to avoid New York state and city taxes. Moving to Florida, a state without income tax or inheritance tax, has become common among wealthy residents looking to dodge high taxes in the northeast.

“As President, I will always be there to help New York and the great people of New York,” Trump tweeted. “It will always have a special place in my heart!”
