Donald Trump and Jeff Bezos are both be billionaires, but they have two very different world views and operating methods.

Trump made his fortune building towers and dealing with blue collar workers. Bezos is a space enthusiast who likes to experiment with robots and operates mainly in the cloud where data now lives. Trump recently zeroed in on Bezos and his company, Amazon, as his two latest Twitter targets.

The Washington Post, also owned by Bezos, writes that this highlights a “severe fracture in American society.” It highlights the different ways Americans now make their wealth, and the difference in the communities that surround them. At least four times this past week, Trump accused Bezos of running a company that doesn’t pay its share of taxes and said that the internet mogul is gaming the system to advance his own interests. Trump said that he views Amazon as “another lobbyist” and he was going to “take a pretty serious look” at the company because “the playing field has to be leveled.”

Bezos has remained silent during these attacks. Some of Trump’s aides and allies think this fight has more to do with The Washington Post, which Bezos owns. According to two of Trump’s advisers, the president believes Bezos is trying to use The Post to damage him politically. Trump has frequently tweeted and commented that he believes The Post to be “fake news.
