Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny—who was jailed by government authorities in June simply for calling for a protest—has kicked the hornet’s nest again, and this time, even harder.
As The Guardian notes, Navalny has released a drone-shot aerial video, which he’s alleging shows a mansion used by Russian President Vladimir Putin for lavish vacations, paid for by corrupt schemes.
Sitting on 50 acres of land and set back in a heavily wooded area on Lodochny Island, near Russia’s border with Finland, Villa Segren is a multi-unit complex—including a guest house and building with servants’ quarters—that features its own private road, helipad, and heavy security.
The approximately 8,000-square-foot main mansion sits at the tip of the island, and has had an nearby addition added that’s twice the size of the main house. The villa is surrounded by gardens and has its own dock and private cove.
“All the evidence clearly points towards one of Vladimir Putin’s standard corruption schemes,” says Navalny in the video. “His personal assets are registered under the names of his close friends who have become fabulously wealthy over the last 17 years.”
The video has been viewed over 2.5 million times since it was uploaded on Aug. 30.
We cued the 10-minute video up to the part about the mansion. Watch it above. (Unless you’re fluent in Russian, we’d advise you to click on the “cc” button at the bottom of the YouTube video for subtitles.)
