Robin Wright’s character, Claire Underwood, in House of Cards has a new title: President. Wright is also settling into a new role as director. Appearing on the Today show, Wright said that the last episode will “shock you beyond belief.”

When asked by Savannah Guthrie if people are going to “be happy with the way all this ends,” Wright said:

“Boy, I hope so. We were pulling out all the stops. How could we top what was going on currently in the news? … Just to be I think the most operatic and the most dramatic and the most machiavellian we can be for the last season.”

Wright directed the last episode of the series, and she said that it is “so infectious, working together with everyone, being a director, its fantastic.” She told Guthrie she hopes to direct again.

During the fall of 2017, Kevin Spacey was fired from the show, following allegations of sexual assault against the actor. Though his departure was shocking, Wright said during the interview with Guthrie that it was always the plan to have her character become the first female president.
