Warner Bros. wants Ready Player One to make $50 million domestically in its opening weekend, and grosses from early releases are looking good. According to a story in The Hollywood Reporter, Ready Player One raked in $3.8 million from preview screenings Wednesday night, and more than $13 million, according to estimates, from its official opening day Thursday. Ready Player One bears a heavy burden given its $175 million pre-marketing budget and a disappointing March for the U.S. box office. Steven Spielberg’s return to sci-fi is on pace to net his best opening weekend in 10 years, when he united Harrison Ford and Shia LaBeouf for the fourth Indiana Jones movie.
