The mega-hit Jordan Peele flick Us has been sparking speculation and fan theories since it first started breaking box office records back in March. While the famed filmmaker has largely remained tight-lipped until now, preferring to let movie-goers ponder over the film’s political implications and cultural references for themselves, the movie’s new Blu-ray release is loaded with special features and commentary that are finally giving viewers some insight into the hit horror flick.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peele even sheds some light on a popular fan-theory involving Jason (Evan Alex), son to Adelaide (Lupita Nyong’o) and Gabe (Winston Duke) and brother of Zora (Shahadi Wright Joseph).

“I always thought of the family in terms of a certain archetypal foursome,” Peele explains in one of the Blu-ray featurettes. “Adelaide is the leader, the captain. Zora is the warrior. She acts before she thinks and she kicks ass. Gabe is the fool, even though on the surface he looks like he might be the leader or the warrior. And Jason is the wizard. He’s the magician.”

As far as the fan-theory that Jason is a Tethered, Peele suggests an alternate reading. “I have this kinda concept of Jason that he can sorta see through the veil. You can see these moments where he’s observing his mother and he’s meant to be a little step ahead of us, the most clever of us that’s sorta figuring out there’s something more to Adelaide’s story than we see.”

The Blu-ray exclusives also provide insight into decisions, influences and other hidden meanings within the film. From star Lupita Nyong’o’s revelation that she took her acting inspiration from cockroaches to Peele’s explanation of the rabbit motif, a second watch will definitely provide a whole new viewing experience.
