In the aftermath of Recording Academy President Neil Portnow’s controversial post-Grammys statements, the Recording Academy has announced the creation of an independent task force to review how the institution can better work toward gender parity, according to Vanity Fair. Portnow said after the male-dominated Grammys that women should “step up” to attain gender parity in the show. Though Portnow tried to clarify his comments earlier this week, many have called for his resignation, from an open letter signed by female music executives to a petition championed by Vanessa Carlton. Pink, Charli XCX, and Katy Perry also criticized Portnow on Twitter. Details about the task force formed in response have not yet been made available.
