Several fake news stories were briefly published by Dow Jones newswire after a ‘technical error,’ according to 9to5Mac, which first reported the real story about the fake news stories.
One of those fake news stories claimed that Google would be buying Apple for only $9 billion. The false headline caused Apple’s stock price to briefly spike to $158 per share before returning to around $156 per share. High-frequency traders had reacted to the false headlines that were only on the newswire for roughly two minutes.
