The Birth of Mixed Reality

The new Lightwear goggles integrate computer images into your field of vision.

Magic Leap, the long-dormant but tremendously well-funded startup, is gearing up to introduce its mixed-reality goggles in 2018, according to a Rolling Stone story. Mixed reality differs from virtual or augmented reality in that it brings in computer-generated creatures and images into the real world in front of you. The goggles, dubbed Lightwear, do not block your vision of the real-life environment around you. Magic Leap, founded by bioengineer Rony Abovitz, has raised $1.9 billion since its 2011 inception. The Magic Leap founder believes that mixed reality will fundamentally change the way people navigate the world, as he intends for consumers in the future to walk around, performing their daily routines, while donning their Lightwear.
