The best thing about Luc Besson’s 1998 sci-fi classic The Fifth Element — besides the costuming of Jean Paul Gaultier, obvs — was the gun.
You know, the Zorg ZF-1. The best gun ever.
Now, Adam Savage has made one.
On a new video for Tested, the former MythBusters host — who is also an accomplished industrial/special effects designer — detailed his ten-plus-year quest to create a replica of the Zorg.
According to the The Fifth Element Wiki, the ZF-1 is an “ambidextrous assault weapon incapable of being detected by X-Rays, featuring a titanium recharger, 3000 round clip with a burst of 3 or 300. It is also designed so that the first round fired will send the following shots to the same location. It also features a variety of other fire modes as well.” Those include rockets, arrows, nets, flame and ice.
So while Savage’s model doesn’t work, it certainly looks threatening.
