Theodore Roosevelt once said that “there are no words that can tell the hidden spirit of the wilderness, that can reveal its mystery, its melancholy, and its charm” — and he was right.
Thankfully we have pictures instead, like the ones photographer Jonathan Irish started snapping last year as part of his effort to visit all 59 U.S. National Parks in just 52 weeks.
On the first day of 2016, Irish and his partner Stefanie Payne rented out their condo and hit the road and headed down to Florida to see Dry Tortuga, Biscayne and Everglades National Park.
More than 39,000 miles and 255,000 photos later, Irish and Payne completed their goal and, while they haven’t shared pics from all the parks yet, here’s the best of what we’ve seen so far:
