FIRST STOP
The Fiscal Agent is a new speakeasy above Barrel & Ashes on Ventura Blvd, the latter being a relatively new BBQ joint comes from Bill Chiat (of Sprout LA). He owns The Fiscal Agent too, along with mixologist Julian Cox. Named for a popular 19th Century tipple, The Fiscal Agent serves 10 drinks, and the ‘tenders come to your table like waiters to discuss the menu with you. Be sure to ask for the Secret Menu, another 10 cocktails that harken back to a simpler time.
On the menu, steak tartare with red frill mustard and crispy octopus. Those will go down nicely with a glass of That’s the Jam, a bourbon drink with fig jam and lemon verbena.
MORE DRINKS? YES, MORE DRINKS.
Black Market Liquor Bar is fairly close by and home to mix masters Steve Livigni and Pablo Moix. The curved ceiling makes the music thump real good-like. Order a Fade To Black, a 103-proof bourbon drink laced with clementine cane syrup and walnut bitters. Adios anciano.
