Endless Summer

Summer – that hussy – is gone.

Took the Friday ball games, Venetian Nights and Lake Shore Drive jogs with her. Went back to California, where she barefoots it on the daily.

The only thing she left us: Summer House Santa Monica, a newly opened and resplendent eatery serving Cali-style fare in a Lincoln Park beach house setting.

This is your new casual date spot.

Inside: a laid-back, blonde wood oasis where ferns hang from canopies, all topped by a retractable glass roof that makes the dining room as sunny as the California coast.

Chef Jeff Mahin slings Midwest comforts like bison meatloaf and flat iron steak frites, but it’s his lighter, seductive dishes that steal the show.

The three that’ll keep you light on your feet:

Hamachi Tartare with Green Apple: The kind of fish you can eat all day at the beach. Incredibly fresh, strangely addicting.

Fresh Burrata: Di Stefano burrata flown in from L.A. Mahin’s signature housemade bread. Win-win.

Japanese BBQ-Glazed Skate Wing: A skate wing fillet nestled on soba noodles and a delicately complex dashi broth.

And a bottle of 2012 Chamisal Stainless Chardonnay pairs well with all three.

Surf’s up.
